Another Dreams
“Pindar sings: ‘Man is the dream of a shadow’. Shakespeare reformulates it: ‘We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep’. Calderón writes Life Is a Dream. Schopenhauer enters into dialogue: ‘Life and dreams are pages of the same book’ (Irene Vallejo).
And yet, Goya already warned us: ‘The sleep of reason produces monsters’. And Christ himself, in Piero della Francesca’s fresco at Borgo San Sepolcro, seems to have awakened into an almost hypnotic life, perhaps far from the call of the Gospel: ‘Keep watch’ (Mt 24:42).
I have built my first solo exhibition, composed of two rivers—painting and drawing—around that mystery which every night—and sometimes during the day—visits us, until the day when, as Manuel Bandeira reminded us, we shall all be:
‘All lying down / Sleeping / Deeply.’
