José Bomfim (Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, 1981) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Talavera de la Reina, Spain. His practice encompasses painting, drawing, collage, and assemblage, using materials like acrylic on plastic, egg tempera on wood, and techniques on paper. Bomfim combines Italian Renaissance aesthetics with modern Expressionism, integrating salvaged industrial objects to explore themes of memory and the transient nature of digital life.
His fragmented aesthetic examines the unity of knowledge and the richness of the world, blending classical motifs with lyrical yet ironic reflections on contemporary reality. As a member of LabCA, Bomfim engages in collaborative projects that foster community connections and artistic experimentation, aligning with the association's mission to encourage cultural dialogue. Notable projects include Memory Cards, reimagining native landscapes with recycled credit cards, and Brought by the Wind, featuring layered drawings in dialogue with other artists.
Bomfim’s work has been featured in exhibitions such as Second Movement at Casa do Brasil Madrid, Brought by the Wind in Terrassa, and LabCA in Toledo. His unique approach invites viewers to reflect on the interplay of permanence and impermanence, classical and contemporary, through deeply evocative art.
